I finally just opened the box they had sent me. It was supposed to be the rest of the set of DVDs. There was not one DVD in there. It was a box of six multi-pack DVD plastic cases! So I now have a bunch of cases for DVDs that I never received, yet I paid my "payoff" to them. What is the point? These people are amazing. I am just glad my credit was not ruined by them and that I am rid of them. It was an expensive lesson for me to learn.

I have become so angry every time I hear from them.  I am sick of it already.  I do not like to be angry. My lawyer said he can see how they can convince most unhappy customers to pay the 1/3 buyout.  He doubts they would actually sue to collect the unpaid amount, but they will likely file a negative credit report about me with the credit bureaus.  He advised me that I can take them to small claims court for fraud and misrepresentation and claim damages up to $7,500.00.  I did threaten to do that to them.  They didn't seem to care. The girl on the phone told me she will send my file to collections. I am amazed there hasn't been a class action law suit against them yet. After reading so many other people's accounts of their credit being ruined by this company when they refused to pay, I decided to just pay the $348 to cancel. I do not want my good credit ruined by this company.  It's not worth it to me.

I just received another letter from LSI stating that because I have not provided them with another credit card for payment they want to collect another $90.00 from me.  They said I received 3 "free" DVD's for giving them my credit card number.  The $90.00 is to refund them for those DVD's.

I am going to try to negotiate a settlement with them to close my account with the BBB. I do not want to pay this company another dime.  I don't feel I owe them anything.  While reading the loads and loads of accounts from other people, I see they ruin people's credit left and right with no qualms.  I don't want my good credit ruined by this pathetic company.

In my opinion the BBB is just a mediating service.  They gave me the phone number for the state division of Consumer Protection, which has authority to enforce consumer protection laws. I will be making a formal complaint with them as soon as possible.

I tried to post comments on their facebook page to warn people about this company.  They deleted my comments and sent me this message:

    • Angela,

Our Fan Page is a place for engaging about the content of our videos and media. I see from your history with our Customer Service that there is a record of rancor on your part in threatening litigation and BBB complaints that have come to naught, to not engage in settlement solutions offered, etc. What doesn't appear is exactly why you wanted to cancel and what kind of conversation you entertained originally with our customer service team.

While your threatening posts here on Facebook will not be allowed to remain, I am writing in case there is material you presented that was not recorded in your file, and whether you have any constructive points elevated to our Operations leader.

If the complaint is that you don't like contract sales there isn't much I can do to change this. We train our salespeople in ethical practices, but nonetheless some customers do not like contract sales and it is difficult to reach any understanding with such persons. Having a sales force has allowed us to build and sustain a well-loved product where other companies in this small market have come and gone. We enforce contracts because it is the only way to recoup commissions paid for each sale. We try to balance the needs of those who buy our products (and who largely praise us) with the needs of independent men and women who make a living or a summer job out of selling for us.

It is saddening to ever hear of dissatisfaction and the alleging of unethical behavior. We maintain a strong record with the BBB. For those minority who do not like us, and if you are one of them, I want to validate your right to your opinion, invite you to share constructive feedback if you were not able to do so with our Customer Service, but also to not allow for Fan Forum to be a place for disgruntlement and argument.

Thanks for listening. Please contact us if you have anything constructive to contribute.

I returned the unopened package of DVD's with a letter stating that I do not want any more of their products.  I have already paid for the products I have received from them.  Do not send any more.  If they injure my credit or file a negative credit report about me I will take legal action against them and claim damages for fraud and misrepresentation. What kind of company tries to force their products on people and then tries to force them to pay for it?

I just received a letter from them stating that they received the package and letter from me.  But they are going to reship the merchandise back to me.  If I return the shipment back it will be considered abandoned and I will still be responsible.  They still want me to settle the account with $348.00.

My Living Scriptures Story

If a nice young man or woman comes to your door to sell you living scriptures DVD's I recommend you do not let them in.  Make them go away and close the door.  Once they are in your door they will stay and push and push until you sign a very expensive and annoying contract that you will regret for a very long time. I'm embarrassed this happened to me, but it did.

One afternoon a young man shows up to my door. He was freshly off his mission and very nice and friendly. I could hardly close my door in his face. I invited him into my home where he was very friendly, ate my food and played with my kids. He commenced doing his best to sell me these DVD's. I kept saying no, but he stayed and stayed until my husband came home from work. My husband said, "why not?" so I signed the papers and we were set up to receive 1 DVD a month and we would make a payment once a month for that DVD.

As time moved on I realized that my kids are not watching these DVD's and I'm getting so many of them that I'm losing space to put them. They are really expensive DVD's! $38.02 for a half hour DVD. I think that's absurd. So I called up their number and attempted to cancel. The Living Scriptures employee informed me that I cannot cancel. I signed a contract and I am liable to pay for their entire set of DVD's, which totals $1800.00. I can't tell you how surprised I was. How can I not cancel? What do they mean I can't cancel? I don't want any more DVD's. I have paid for what I have received and I don't want any more. It's as simple as that. I asked to speak to a supervisor. Their supervisor said the only way I can cancel is if I pay 1/3 of the total amount. If I pay that large sum I get nothing in return. It's the cancellation fee. I refused to pay that and I didn't want to deal with it so I just continued to receive the DVD's and get billed monthly.

Eventually I got sick of it again. I began to google The Living Scriptures and found a large number of unhappy customers. I was so happy to know I'm not alone. Some people suggested going to the Better Business Bureau. So that's what I did. I complained about their unethical business practices. I found that the B.B.B. did nothing but try to mediate a negotiation between me and the company to resolve my complaint. They sent my complaint to The Living Scriptures and we waited for a response from them. The Living Scriptures responded with the same information I got on the phone. They wanted me to pay 1/3 of the amount owed. I refused to pay a dime. I said I was not satisfied with the company's response to my complaint.

They responded to me by saying, "It appears you have not provided us with any new information or a middle ground offer we can present to the company on your behalf. We are unable to re-contact the company without this information. In order to resolve most disputes it takes both parties involved to move from their present position to a middle ground. If you would like our continued assistance in resolving this matter, please provide us with your middle ground and/or suggestions on how this dispute can be resolved."

I was mistaken to think the Bureau was going to somehow regulate their unethical business practices. I do not want to pay them another dime so I called my credit card and asked them to never make a payment to The Living Scriptures again. The Living Scriptures called and asked me for another credit card or form of payment. I told them I do not want any more DVD's and I do not owe them another dime. She told me she will send my account to collections. Today I received a large box full of DVD's. They sent me the rest of the set they want me to pay for. This is why I am writing this blog. I am amazed that they have gotten away with this for so long with so many people and have not been sued. I believe it is because of their customers who are faithful Christians. We are being taken advantage of because of our beliefs.
